Education First targets high schools located in low-income communities; carefully selecting each school to ensure that it is characteristic of our mission. Although the high schools have lower percentages of college applicants, our applicants have overcome adversity and are striving for goals that many of their peers may not share.
Students are evaluated based on:
- Depth of essay responses which show strength of character, commitment to learning and a vision for their future
- Financial need
- Academic promise
We are not necessarily looking for the "straight A" student, but rather one who has the tools and motivation to be successful in college.

Where Are They Now?
Thank you for the support you provided me during my time at California State University, Los Angeles, and for helping me to become the first one in my family to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I got hired by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power a few weeks after finishing with school. My achievements were possible by your help and support. Thank you so much.
