Evaluation Criteria
High School
Education First targets high schools in located in low-income communities. Education First carefully selects each school to ensure that it is characteristic of our mission. Although the high schools have lower percentages of college applicants, our applicants have overcome adversity and are striving for goals that many of their peers may not share.
Student
Students are evaluated based on:
- Depth of essay responses which show strength of character, commitment to learning and a vision for their future
- Financial need
- Academic promise
We are not necessarily looking for the "straight A" student, but rather one who has the tools and motivation to be successful in college.

Where Are They Now?
I have been extremely busy. I am a full time student at South Seattle Community College currently in my last quarter for my Associates of Arts, which means I am getting ready to apply to universities and decide my major. I work 32 hours a week at ITT Technical Institute in the Career Service Department. It is hard sometimes (as a single mother of two) but I try my best.
